Photographer Steven Sebring’s multi-media opening party titled REVOLUTION at the 69th Regiment Armory last night was filled with beautifully mounted photographs that blurred his subjects with extreme movement, curious small sculptures caught as though they were just about to leap and short twirling films that were projected on a giant screen in the center of the space.
Film subject Patti Smith appeared (and sang) on screen in what appeared to be a mental institution moving frantically about, repeatedly standing and sitting in seemingly agitated constant motion, while the set (or camera) spun in dizzying circles.
This featured quote from Leonardo Davinci sums it up quite nicely:
"Every body that moves rapidly seems to color its path with the impression of its hue. Thus when lightning moves among dark clouds the speed of it’s sinuous flight makes its whole course resemble a luminous snake. This is because the organ of perception acts more rapidly than the judgement."
